Local Sisters Team to Buff World's Nails

A wide-eyed little girl who used to watch her grandmother buff her fingernails never forgot the elegant practice - and grew up to be president of Nailbuffs, a company which has invented new-for-the'80s natural nail care designed for both men and women.

Donna Taras, a Springfield woman, with her sister Royce (executive vice president) has launched Nailbuffs by Taras with immediate and exciting results.

"We ourselves are the original Nailbuffs," Donna explained. "We were looking for something that wouldn't have the usual limitations.

"Something that would be good for everyone, year round, any day. The health care area was most appealing."

She paused for a minute and then added : "And we had both noticed that many men, well dressed with carefully cut and styled hair, have carelessly groomed hands. Often really ugly."

Nail Care Important

"We realized a man's hands and nails are an infallible clue to his real self image. A subtle area often neglected and a very important part of a man's appeal for women."

That's when Donna remembered her grandmother and her traditional hand grooming.

She felt nail buffing, like so much else Victorian, would be newly appreciated today.

"They had the right idea then, because buffing was a totally natural and effective way to increase circulation into the fingertips. It helped promote nail health and prevent nail fungus, which is very hard to get rid of, once you contract it."

The thing Victorians lacked was a good formula which would brilliantly shine and totally protect the nails - instantly.

Worked With Chemist

Nailbuffs formula was no sudden stroke of luck. For two years the sisters worked with a skilled chemist. They insisted on a totally non-toxic, natural formula which would contain vitamins A, D and E plus wheat germ oil.

"Because," Donna explained earnestly, "the nailbed, directly beneath the nails, is delicate and sensitive. It affects the nails. We've read so much about it. Talked to doctors, too."

The result is their natural doeskin chamois buffer, a Nailbuffs formula, plus a finishing powder for extra shine and protection - even a ridge remover which can gently remove surface nail ridges, horizontal or vertical. Ridges become logical places for breaks in the fingernails as they grow to the end of the fingers.

No one is too old or too young for this kind of nail care. No skin too light or dark, since it enhances natural skin tones. "It is your own nail without any artifices. A good healthy look."

Simple Procedure

Despite being so effective, buffing is so simple, Donna even renews hers at traffic-light-pauses as she drives to appointments.

'Your nails are always 'on,' always looking their best.

You won't have to worry about unsightly polish peeling or chipping any more," Donna noted. "And there's none of the yellowing of nails which can happen when polish is habitually worn."

The sisters got some clue about the success which was to greet Nailbuffs when they approached their first department store buyer. Without much interest she agreed to test the product, but warned them her "nails were hopeless."

A week later she called, in great excitement, and demanded to know when Nailbuffs would be delivered to the store.

"Even the most hopeless nails respond," Donna agreed happily.

Excited About Prospects

She is understandably excited about the reception accorded their fragrance-free, dye-free, pH balanced formula. It shines within seconds and lasts several days, but is gentle enough for daily use.

Nailbuffs will debut at Steiger's with both sisters on hand to show how, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Baystate West; 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Steiger's in Ingleside Mall; noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Eastfield Mall.

They do indeed seem to have found something without the usual limitations. Not only are stores across the country interested in Nailbuffs, but enquiries are arriving from Canada, England and countries across Europe.
